Preventing Stress at Work

The vast majority of senior HR professionals believe stress is the biggest threat to the future health of the UK workforce. Yet many employers fail to tackle stress at an early stage (Personnel Today Dec 2007). This very easy to use, very cost-effective pack gives you a way to air some ideas about reducing the threat of stress at work.

In this activity participants 'move' across a board picking up cards and discussing the issues. One set contains statements about stress that may be true or may be false and participants decide – reveals many misconceptions. Other cards ask questions of the group and elicit whether they have stress symptoms or not and what causes them to feel stressed.

Finally a set of task cards explore the whole topic through mini-case studies and questions to test knowledge and awareness of stress factors. A great discussion exercise that can be an enormous relief to staff as it gives them an opportunity to express what is bothering them.
