Everyone is different, everyone should be respected - diversity in a nutshell. Explore the wider issues of diversity with this enjoyable, non-threatening exercise.
Cover key topics such as disability, sexism, ageism, gender, harassment, racism and religion. This one-hour activity embraces the concept of diversity at work and considers how it works in practice.
Move your counter across the activity board and along the way pick up one of three types of card. True or False cards test prejudices and mistaken ideas. Real Case cards ask delegates to comment on actual court cases or Employment Tribunal hearings. Group Task cards stimulate lively debate on a whole range of diversity and equal opportunities issues. Respond to what’s asked of you on the cards and record your comments, lists, decisions, views etc on a group form for reference during the debrief.
Guaranteed to stimulate positive debate, clarify ideas, and engender the spirit of a truly diverse workforce (which mirrors our truly diverse world).

Shelley Waller, Project Manager, Working LinksWe have used the Diversity at Work game in specific diversity workshops but also in company inductions and management development programmes. It has been used at all levels in the business, with new and existing employees. The activity gets people talking about issues and perspectives which would otherwise be difficult to broach. It quickly builds a 'safe environment' for people to express their thoughts and feelings. We’ve used it in offices around the country and always get a very positive response – people enjoy playing the game but ultimately learn something and increase their awareness/understanding of a number of issues. It's an excellent activity to introduce diversity – can be used as a stand alone resource or as part of a wider workshop on diversity. An excellent resource which everyone enjoys using.
Graham Smith, Training Strategy Manager, Birmingham City Council
Used to explore diversity during a training course on customer service with a group of new employees of varying experiences and job roles. The best learning point was being able to talk openly about sensitive issues in a safe environment, through the game.
Challenging and enjoyable; interesting & extremely thought-provoking, it's an excellent resource. Also a flexible one. The delegates thoroughly enjoyed playing this activity.
P. Ripley, Hounslow HousingExcellent idea, original material - and fun. Good debate starter, raises awareness - and the information on actual cases is very useful.
