Are teams cool under pressure or are they be tempted out of their comfort zone? Fun, high-energy test of teamwork and goal setting - fantastic value!

Energising teamwork activity that bonds teams, shows how well they work together as an effective force and asks how well do they handle risk. Can they find the right balance and demonstrate effective goal setting?

It’s all about scoring points; who gains most? You start by matching a series of 20 advertising slogans. Some you will know, others you’ll deduce. Getting the right match scores points and gets you off to a good start.

After 10 minutes you ask for more point-scoring challenges; miscellaneous problems, puzzles and mindbenders. You are given some idea of the challenges so you can decide what you think your team can take on. You can also ask for as many or as few challenges as you choose. Each 10 minute interval thereafter you can take on more. The catch is that if you cannot complete any of them, or if you get them wrong, you receive penalty points which count against your score.

It’s all about estimating the degree of risk, making realistic assessments and optimising individual skills of team members. Final scores provide instant assessment of performance! Great fun.
  • to take account of risky strategies
  • to set realistic goals
  • to work as a team
  • to plan the sharing of team tasks
  • to think outside the box
  1. Introduce the activity.
  2. Issue Briefing Materials and allow teams 10 minutes for initial plans.
  3. Issue the Advertising cards.
  4. After 10 minutes, allow teams to take on further challenges as they wish – and at 10 minute intervals thereafter.
  5. After 50 minutes, stop the activity and lead a Debrief and score the teams. Widen the discussion to attitudes to risk at work.

Great as an ice-breaker AND as an activity for more meaningful discussion.
G. Johnson, Straight Talking (UK) LtdI recommend this to anyone wanting an activity that is engaging, requires individuals to work in teams and is a lot of fun. The cheers that accompanied the answers made for an energetic and enjoyable end to the participants' day.

S. Shaljean-Tilley, National School of Government
Active and fun as well as an effective teaching aid.
K. Bevan, NUTS Training Ltd
Risk is fun and engaging! A great way to demonstrate specific characteristics that arise in team situations and an opportunity to look at risk-taking in a practical and interactive way.
