This new pack - otherwise known as 'Teams at Work' - is the sequel to our highly successful 'Teamwork Challenge'. Just as fast paced, exciting and competitive - a great test of teamwork!
Your aim is to recover sunken treasure. Your target is a galleon, The Black Swan, sunk in 1694 off the Spanish coast. There’s $50 million at stake so you won’t be surprised to hear that other speculators - the other teams - are in the race so you must move fast.
First locate the wreck’s position on the map, then the treasure’s position on the wreck, then hire a boat and submersible for the recovery operation - and you’ve done it!
Sounds easy but there are a host of problems to overcome. Key to your success is the crucial data on 36 special cards. Collating and interpreting the data is vital - and best handled using the strengths of all members of the team. In fact your success depends entirely on your ability to work as a team. You know the theory of good teamwork, here’s you chance to show you can put it into practice.
A powerful activity for learning key teamwork skills and for demonstrating the positive energy generated by high-performing teams.
Note: although the scenario in this activity has some overlap with our conference activity, Spanish Gold, they are two very different activities.

- Introduce the activity.
- Issue Team Briefs.
- Allow teams to study the chart and locate the wreck. They must formulate a recovery plan.
- Next, teams plan a route to the wreck and must request tasks to move across sea squares.
- Using the strengths of different team members, teams choose those tasks they think they are good at.
- Lead a Debrief to discuss the learning outcomes and key lessons.
- Relate the lessons to the workplace.

The best learning outcome was that delegates needed to really want to work as teams. An enjoyable training activity where the most difficult part for participants was agreeing their overall objective.
Easy to introduce (5 minutes) and easy to run. My team took longer than they should because they were reluctant at first to work as a team – and then realised they had no alternative!!
